What Florida Homeowners
Need to Know

Impact-rated sliding glass door systems in standard and large-format sizes — with proper sill drainage specified for Florida's rainfall volumes and full Florida Product Approval for Sarasota County's wind zone.

Every impact window and door installation requires a permit in Sarasota County. Every system we install carries full Florida Product Approval documentation — the paperwork your wind mitigation inspector needs to credit you for opening protection, which reduces your annual insurance premium.

The wind mitigation math: A whole-home impact window and door installation typically generates $600–$1,200 in annual insurance premium savings through wind mitigation credits. Over 10 years, that's $6,000–$12,000 in direct savings — a significant offset to the installation cost.

FAQ

Sliding Glass Doors Questions
From Sarasota Homeowners

What is Florida Product Approval and why does it matter?

Florida Product Approval (FPA) is the state certification that a window or door system has been tested to meet Florida's specific wind load, impact, and water infiltration requirements. Without FPA, your permit will fail inspection and your wind mitigation inspector cannot credit you for opening protection. We only install FPA-documented systems.

How long does the installation take?

Most single-opening installations complete in one day. Whole-home replacements typically run 1–3 days depending on window count and any trim or interior finish work. The permit review and window lead time are the primary scheduling factors — the installation itself moves quickly.

Can I keep my existing window frames?

In some cases, yes — insert installations use the existing frame and reduce cost and disruption. However, insert installations may not qualify for full FPA documentation in all configurations. We assess at the site walk and advise on which approach gives you the best performance and wind mitigation credit outcome.
